WMHD 2023 Impact Report

As the World Federation of Mental Health (WFMH) Secretary-General, it gives me great pleasure to share the WFMH World Mental Health Day 2023- Impact Report. The report highlights more than 100 initiatives organised by stakeholders across 30 countries that were featured as a part of the Global Campaign 2023. The Global Campaign spanned 150 days and helped raise awareness about mental well-being in an empathetic manner.

History of WFMH

Founded in 1948, the World Federation for Mental Health began with members, ‘not of individuals or countries, but of societies’ from 46 countries. Today, with members and contacts in over 90 countries, the organisation chronicles the emergence of a global movement, one that has tirelessly championed the cause of mental health awareness, shattered stereotypes around mental disorders, and kindled a beacon of hope for individuals worldwide. Let’s embark on a captivating voyage through time and unravel the historical roots of the WFMH!

75 years of Mental Health Advocacy

Celebrating 75 Years of WFMH

On 17th November 2023, a special event was held in Geneva, commemorating WFMH’s 75th Anniversary, titled ’75 Years of Mental Health Advocacy: Achievements, Challenges and the Future’. This milestone gathering aimed to shape WFMH’s future advocacy agenda, aligning it with the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the WFMH 2023-2025 triennial collaborative plan, as WFMH continues its role as a non-state actor in Official Relations with the WHO.

Hosted by the World Council of Churches at the Ecumenical Centre in Geneva, Switzerland, the event was conducted in a hybrid format, drawing over 1,000 participants from around the globe. The program featured a rich array of workshops on diverse themes, led by esteemed speakers.
